I was nominated by Getting Through Anxiety to complete the Coffee Book Tag! Reading was my first love so I’m really excited to complete this 🙂
A series that’s tough to get into but has hard-core fans.
After watching the Game of Thrones TV series I was keen to read the books. They are really heavy going, loads of characters, places and languages and complicated storylines. It took a lot of effort to read these but I know a lot of serious fans of this book series.
A book that gets more popular during the winter or a festive time of year.
Well I can’t speak for everyone else, but I always fine myself reading The Little Matchstick Girl by Hans Christian Anderson at Christmas time. My Gran used to read it to me as a child so I guess it brings back happy memories, even though it’s actually a pretty depressing story!
A favourite children’s book
I’m not sure whether children’s book is meaning as a very young child or slightly older so I’ve done both! When I was little my gran always used to read me Six Dinner Sid by Inga Moore. Such a cute book, obviously I loved cats from the start! When I was older I used to love Tracy Beaker by Jacqueline Wilson..I had pretty much all her kids books.
DOUBLE SHOT OF ESPRESSO
A book that kept you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
Oh so many books have that effect on me, when I start a good book I can’t put it down! But the most recent was the Divergent series by Veronica Roth. Set in a future where the world has all but destroyed itself it’s a story full of action and mystery that left me dying to know what’s going on!
A book you see everywhere.
Book shops, charity shops, people on the bus…even in the supermarket! I can’t seem to get away from this Fifty Shades series!
THAT HIPSTER COFFEE SHOP
A book by an indie author (a shout out).
Erm as I only really have books from well known authors so I don’t really have anyone to shout out to sorry!
OOPS! I ACCIDENTALLY GOT DECAF
A book you were expecting more from
I feel kind of mean with this one! I really loved the Harry Potter books, I mean hundreds of people all over the world did! But when Casual Vacancy came out I was left disappointed. After the brilliant, creative novels this just seemed bland in comparison. But it’s really rare for a writer who has written such a best selling series to then have all their other books be just as fantastic.
THE PERFECT BLEND
A book or series that was both bitter and sweet, but ultimately satisfying.
Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. The story of two women in Afghanistan. When the Taliban take over, life becomes a desperate struggle against starvation, brutality and fear. Yet love can move a person to act in unexpected ways, and lead them to overcome the most daunting obstacles with a startling heroism. It’s a real rollercoaster of emotions but a truly wonderful story.
A book or series that is quietly beautiful.
Beauty means different things to different people, but in my opinion The Perks of being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky is quietly beautiful. He beautifully words the voice of a boy teetering on the brink of adulthood who is struggling with life. It’s a story that is so relatable on so many levels.
A book or series that makes you dream of far off places.
It would have to be P.C. Cast’s Goddess Summoning Series. Based on the Greek Gods & Goddesses mythology this fantasy series gets me lost in a far off (but non existent) magical world.
That’s actually quite hard because I love the classics! It would have to be between Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte.
Everyone! Any book lovers that want to take part please do 🙂
